A very warm welcome to Year 4's class page!

Our class teacher is Miss Dwyer and our fantastic teaching assistant is Miss Appleton. 

Happy New Year to all parents, children and friends. Thank-you very much for all the gifts, cards and good wishes for Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing all your lovely faces after a long and well deserved break!

 

 

Year 4 will start school at 8.40am and will finish at 3pm

Curriculum information

Topic

This term our topic is "Eruption and Destruction". We have some very exciting activities planned. Take a look at our class topic web below to see what we will be learning about this term.

English

In Literacy this term we will be reading 'Leon and the Place Between' by Angela McAllister. We will then move on to read 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit.  Delving into the world of Pompeii will link in with our unit on Eruption and Destruction. 

Maths

 In maths this term, our learning will focus on multiplication and division. We will then move onto look at measurment and area. 

Routines in Year 4

P.E

This term we have Dance on a Tuesday afternoon and Football outdoors on a Thursday afternoon. Please can children come into school wearing their PE kit, ensuring children are in weather appropriate clothing.

Forest School

Children will have a series of Forest School sessions during the term. Your child will need suitable outdoor clothing such as a named waterproof coat, hat, gloves and wellington boots from the beginning of the academic year. Children are to wear appropriate outdoor clothes to school (not their uniform) for the whole day, bringing an additional pair of shoes to wear indoors.

Homework

As part of their homework, all children are expected to read 5 times per week. Please try to read as much as possible with your child and remember to sign their reading record tevery day to help them reach the GOLD star on our class 'Star Readers' chart! Children will be able to change their reading books on a Monday. Alternating Maths and English homework tasks and will be set on Mirodo Education on a Friday and are to be completed by the following Friday. 

Spellings

In class, we will be focusing on learning the Year 4 spelling patterns. Spellings will be set on Spelling Shed on a Friday to practice at home, in preparation for a weekly spelling test the following Friday. Please ensure that your child is learning their spellings throughout the week.  

Multiplication Tables Check

In June, Year 4 will be participating in the new standard Multiplication Check. This will test speed as well as knowledge. All children have a login for times tables rockstars and mathletics inside their reading records, these games are a fun and interactive way for children to practise their times tables and other mathematical skills. Please encourage your child to use Timestables Rockstars.

  • Newsround - Brilliant way for children to keep up to date with fun facts, stories and bulletins. 
  • BBC Bitesize - Lots of information covering a range of exciting topics.
  • National Geographic Kids - A great way for children to discover facts about the planet, along with interactive games and competitions. 

KEY POINTS TO NOTE:

  • Please bring in a waterproof coat as we will be encouraging the children to go outside lots!
  • Please remember that your child will need a bottle of water to have in class. 
  • Belongings: Please make sure that all of your child’s belongings (especially jumpers and cardigans) are clearly labelled.
  • Please ensure your child brings snack money in a named, sealed envelope at the start of the week with their snack money in.
