We have lots of exciting events and activities to look forward to this year, including our trip to London!

Curriculum

During the Spring term, we are going to be exploring great inventors and inventions, especially ones that have changed the world and ones that have had the greatest impact on how people live.

I have attached a topic web for this term so that you can see the learning journey that your children will be taken on.

In Literacy, we are going to be reading ‘The Hunter’ by Paul Geraghty and ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield.

Darkest Dark(3)

Music

We are very lucky in Year 5, as part of a music inititatve will have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments. Our lessons will take place on a Tuesday afternoon so please make sure you have your instruments in school!

Homework

Please try to read at least three times a week and make sure you fill in your ready diary, even if your child is reading to themself. Your reading diary needs to be in school everyday.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and I will expect it back the following Wednesday. In addition to the weekly pieces of homework, I am going to set a creative topic based piece.

Spellings will be given out on a Monday and need to be practised, ready for a test on Friday.

Times tables and Minute Maths will also be tested twice per week.

Mathletics and MyMaths tasks will be set on a regular basis and need completing. Your login in is stuck inside your reading diaries but if you can't find it, please come and ask me for it. I will be checking that these tasks are being completed.

Useful Information

We will have PE on a Friday, so please make sure your kits are in school on these days (though it is useful to have it in school everyday, just in case). Please could you make sure your child has a named water bottle in school with them everyday.

Finally, if you have any worries, concerns or general questions, please feel free to come and see me at the end of the day once all of the children have been dismissed and I will be happy to discuss these with you.
