Welcome to Year 5!

Miss Marx

Miss Matzen and Miss Appleton

We have lots of exciting events and activities to look forward to this year, including our trip to London!

I hope you find our class page useful and have a look at our topic web to see what we are up to this half term!

Class representatives

Our class School Councillors

Thomas Ode and Holly Dobson

Our 3 class Eco Warriors

Elsie Edwards, Kian Holland and Ella Whitney

Our topic this term is going to be the Anglo Saxons and Vikings!

During the Autumn term we will be reading and looking at two books; Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo and The Warrior Troll by Rachael Lindsay. We are incredibly lucky as Rachael Lindsay will be coming into school to do a personalised workshop linked to the Warrior Troll! We are going to use these books to help us produce poems, newspaper articles, stories and many more excellent pieces of work! Both of these books are linked to our topic.

We are very lucky in Year 5, as part of a music inititatve will have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments. Our lessons will take place on a Tuesday afternoon so please make sure you have your instruments in school!

Please try to read at least three times a week and make sure you fill in your ready diary, even if your child is reading to themself. Your reading diary needs to be in school everyday.

Spellings will be given out on a Monday and need to be practised, ready for a test on Friday.

Times tables and Minute Maths will also be tested twice per week.

Mathletics and MyMaths tasks will be set on a regular basis and need completing. Your login in is stuck inside your reading diaries but if you can't find it, please come and ask me for it. I will be checking that these tasks are being completed.

Useful Information

We will have PE on a Monday, so please make sure your kits are in school on these days (though it is useful to have it in school everyday, just in case). Please could you make sure your child has a named water bottle in school with them everyday.

Finally, if you have any worries, concerns or general questions, please feel free to come and see me at the end of the day once all of the children have been dismissed and I will be happy to discuss these with you.
