Welcome to Year 5!

Mrs Moss

Mrs Ellis and Mrs Estcourt

In light of the ongoing situation please find attached the current WEP guidance regarding attendance in school and links to where home learning can be accessed. I have also attached a Year 5 Summer home learning web which can also be found on the class Seesaw platform.

Until further notice we will continue our learning through Seesaw.

During Summer term, we are going to be learning about the Mayans and their influences in History and Geography, where they settled and how they farmed.

In Art we will focus on the work of Rodney McCoubrey and Jane Perkins who use recycled materials to create their work and also Salvador Rodriguez who creates Mayan Art.

In science we will be looking at materials and their properties and uses.

I have attached a topic web for this term so that you can see the learning journey that your children will be taken on.

In Literacy, we will be reading 'The Paper Bag Prince' by Colin Thompson and then 'The Hunter' by Paul Geraghty.

We are very lucky in Year 5, as part of a music inititatve will have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments. You are able to access these lessons online through the link on Seesaw.

Please try to read daily but at least three times a week and make sure you fill in your reading diary, even if your child is reading to themself. Your reading diary needs to be in school everyday.

Homework will be given out on a Wednesday and I will expect it back the following Tuesday. In addition to the weekly pieces of homework, I am going to set a creative topic based piece.

Spellings will be given out on a Friday and need to be practised, ready for a test on the following Friday.

Times tables and Minute Maths will also be tested twice per week.

Mathletics  tasks will be set on a regular basis and need completing. Your login in is stuck inside your reading diaries but if you can't find it, please come and ask me for it. I will be checking that these tasks are being completed.

Useful Information

We will have PE on a Monday and on Thursday, so please make sure you have your kits in school on these days (though it is useful to have it in school everyday, just in case). Please could you make sure your child has a named water bottle in school with them everyday.

Finally, if you have any worries, concerns or general questions, please feel free to come and see me at the end of the day once all of the children have been dismissed and I will be happy to discuss these with you.
