Welcome To Year 5

Year 5 is where you will find Mr. Lloyd, Miss. McKerron, Mrs. Ellis and a class of marvellous children.

As part of our wider curriculum in Year 5, we take part in the Wider Opportunities music initiative. Our music lessons take place on a Thursday morning and we learn to play a range of instruments. Please make sure you have your instrument in on these days as the progress you are making is fantastic!

Homework books are given out to children on Fridays and are to be placed back in the blue box on a Wednesday. My Maths and Mathletics will be set weekly and the children will be made aware of this.

Please continue to practise your times tables for our challenge and your spellings.

Please try to read every night. We appreciate that sometimes this can be impossible at times but every effort does reap rewards. When you have read, please ensure your child is filling in their reading diaries - even if the children read to themselves.

Over the Summer term we shall be looking at the topic of Invaders and Settlers, with the focus being on the Anglo Saxon and Viking invasions. This will be linked through our literacy work where possible, with the story of Beowulf being a focus.

During the first half of the Summer term we will be having additional swimming sessions at the Lifestyle Centre on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that you have your swimming kit in school on this day.

Wednesday will be the day for our PE sessions - the focus this term will be football and athletics.
