Welcome to our wonderful year 6 class. Our teacher is Mrs Speed and our amazing teaching assistant is Miss Matzen.

Year 6 start school at 8.50am and finish at 3.10pm.

This term our learning is inspired by our topic:

 Amazing Americas

We will investigate the question:

Is South America the same all over the continent?

We will be reading "Can we Save the Tiger" and "Island" in our English lessons and will create our own non-chronological reports and recount texts. Through these books we will be exploring endangered animals and what is being done to prevent their extinction, as well as following Charles Darwin's journey to the Galopogas islands.

In Maths this term, our learning will focus on fractions, decimals and percentages. We will also be working on units of measure, especially angles, area and perimeter. We will also introduce algebra.

In our Science lessons, we be learning how animals are classified and why the adapt to different environments. We will be studying the work of Charles Darwin and Carl Linnaeus.

In our Geography lessons we will be exploring map and atlas skills based around South America. We will map the famous Amazon River and learn about some of the tribes which live in the rainforest. In groups, pupils will investigate one South American country.

Here are some of the books we will be reading during our English lessons.
