The Pupil Premium is finance given to schools with the specific aim of improving the outcomes of young people from less advantaged backgrounds. Nationally, there is a significant difference in the educational achievement of pupils who receive or have received Free School Meals than those who do not, for instance. The same is true of children who are in the care of Local Authorities.

Pupil Premium is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who have been:

• Registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
• In care for 6 months or longer
• Have been looked after for 1 day or more
• Were adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005 left care under:
• A Special Guardianship Order on or after 30 December 2005
• A Residence Order on or after 14 October 1991

At St Chad’s CE Primary and Nursery School we use a substantial part of this funding to provide academic interventions led by teaching assistants within school hours.  

As well as offering academic support to raise attainment, we offer nurture and welfare support for Pupil Premium pupils. We believe these allow Pupil Premium children the opportunities to participate fully in all the school has to offer. The barriers to educational achievement faced by our pupils are detailed in our Pupil Premium Strategy Report Nov 2020 along with how we plan to address those barriers.
