Why Attendance Matters
At St Chad’s, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to flourish academically, socially and spiritually. Good attendance is one of the most important factors in helping children achieve their full potential.
When children attend school every day, they:
- Build confidence and independence.
- Develop strong friendships and a sense of belonging.
- Benefit from high-quality teaching and learning.
- Make better progress and achieve higher outcomes.
- Develop positive habits that support lifelong success.
Our Attendance Expectation
We aim for every child to achieve at least 96% attendance. Attendance below 90% is classed as Persistent Absence by the Department for Education and will require additional support and monitoring from school.

Every Day Counts

| 100–96 | 0–7.6 days | Up to 1 week | Your child is attending school regularly and is able to make the most of the learning, friendships and opportunities available at St Chad’s. |
| 95–91 | 9.5–17.1 days | 2–3 weeks | Missing school begins to impact learning. Your child may find it harder to keep up with new concepts, experiences and class learning. |
| 90 | 19–26.6 days | 4–5 weeks | Your child’s attendance is causing a significant loss of learning time. Gaps in knowledge can develop and additional support may be needed to help them catch up. |
| 85– | 28.5–38 days | 6–8 weeks | Your child’s attendance is a serious concern. Missing this amount of school is likely to have a substantial impact on academic achievement, confidence, friendships and overall school experience. |
