Geography 2020/2021

Subject led by Miss Hough

Geography is a wonderful way for children to engage with their local environment and also the wider world.

It opens up children's minds to the world in which they live - recognising and appreciating the changing landscapes and varied cultures that help our world to go around.

Here at St. Chad's C of E Primary and Nursery School, Geography is taught progressively and through a combination of classroom based activities and practical fieldwork.

We utilise our school building, grounds and surrounding area to develop our mapping skills from Year 1 through to Year 6.

Local fieldwork includes studies of the River Weaver and understanding of how the local landscape has changed over time. Our link with Weaver Dairy Farm enables learning off site and provides classes with exciting opportunities to take their skills and develop them further.

Each term we have a Cultural Day. So far we have celebrated Mexican and French culture by underpinning creative activities with new learning about the countries.

We have a school subscription to Oddizzi, an e-learning resource and community that immerses children in the real world. The website enables children to 'break out' of their own world and join a global community. Children who use Oddizzi can view the world through the eyes of people who are passionate about the places that they are sharing. The website builds a solid understanding of people, places and cultures of the world.
