Science

Subject led by Mrs Rowling
At St Chad's we believe our children have the right to be taught key knowledge and skills across the Science curriculum in order to help them to develop an understanding of the world around them. We are committed to providing a creative and engaging curriculum through exciting learning opportunities to all of our children. In EYFS, children explore scientific concepts under the heading of Understanding of the World and teaching and learning is focused around each child’s first hand experiences. In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 scientific theories and concepts are explored through investigations. Children are taught and encouraged to predict, observe, measure, interpret, conclude and evaluate. We want to channel children’s natural curiosity of the world around them to inspire them to pursue further scientific enquiries. We want to encourage them to ask questions, problem solve and discuss their own theories and ideas.

Our Science lessons aren’t just limited to the classroom... we make use of our wonderful outdoor facilities including the woodlands, field and playground in order to maximise the children's learning experiences. All classes from Nursery to Year 6 are frequent vistors to the local farm in Winsford. Farmer Rosie links the learning at the farm to the class topics. This allows children to develop the key skills of investigation, problem solving and team work; empowering children to question the world around them and become scientific thinkers.

Science Week
Last years Science Week was based on 'Innovating for the future'. We felt this was incredibly fitting given the unprecedated times we have all been living throughout in 2020/21. Science is about innovation and creating a better future for all. We wanted oir children to believe that they have the ability to be 'Innovators of our future'
Each class was given an innovator to learn about. We wanted our children to feel inspired by 'Little People with Big Dreams'.
The week was a real success please take a look at the photographs to show how inspired we all became.
