Pathways to Write

Writing is led by Mrs Stead

At St Chad's we are always looking for exciting, real life opportunities to engage our children in purposeful writing experiences.

Our writing units are intertwined with our curriculum to ensure they offer plenty of opportunities for research and application of skills.

Pathways-600x600

From Reception to Year 6, we follow Pathways to Write. This works with an exciting book at the heart of each termly unit. From this children discover new skills and genres whilst builing on and consolidating their prior learning.

The 'pathway' is spilt into three catergoies

  • Gateway Keys
  • Mastery Keys
  • Feature Keys

To continue along the 'pathway' their end goal, children must be skilled in using all of the keys taught to them. Children then have a chance to show off these skills through a number of extended writing tasks and, at the end of the unit, a write away task to show case their learning.

We also supplement each term with a poetry unit linked to our Pathways text, to ensure children are exposed to a wealth of exciting poetry.
